Stump Images

When the water level of Bass Lake goes down in late summer and fall, the stumps are exposed. Bass Lake is on the location of what was once called Crane Valley with Willow Creek running through the center. This valley has had many uses over the years. The Western Mono and Chuckchansi inhabited this area for hundreds of years, followed by ranchers, loggers, miners and energy corporations. In the early 1900’s the valley was dammed up for logging purposes and then an even larger dam was created and it was turned into a reservoir to generate power. All the trees were cut down in this valley and now only the stumps remain. I have spent the last two years photographing the stumps but I will never capture them all.
